Aerial Mosquito Spray Scheduled for Hammonton on Thursday, August 29

Post Date:08/27/2024 11:25 AM

The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control is scheduled to conduct an evening aerial spray over portions of Hammonton on  Thursday, August 29 between 6 PM and 8 PM, weather permitting, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce the population of adult mosquitoes and prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illness. No other Atlantic County communities are scheduled for spraying at this time.

The areas to be treated are bounded by the intersection of the Hammonton/Folsom border and continuing southwest to Rt. 54, then northeast along Rt. 54 to Rt. 30, then north along Rt. 206 to the intersection with Basin Road, then northwest to the Atlantic County boundary, and southwest to the starting point.

Aerial spraying will be done using Fyfanon, the trade name for Malathion, applied as an ultra-low volume aerosol. For health information about pesticides to be applied, call the Office of Mosquito Control at (609) 645-5948.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not require relocating or taking special precautions during mosquito control spraying though some may choose to avoid or minimize exposure by:

  • Staying indoors during application to immediate area
  • Keeping windows shut, window fans and window air conditioners off (or set to circulate indoor air) during spraying
  • Keeping children’s toys indoors
  • Keeping pets indoors, as well as their food, water dishes and toys

Residents can help reduce mosquito populations by removing standing water from their properties.
