What We Do
Family Success Centers (FSC) are community-based, family-centered neighborhood gathering places where any community resident can go for family support, information, and services. Family Success Centers aim to enrich the lives of children and adults by making families and neighborhoods stronger by helping and empowering families to succeed.
Goals
The overarching goal of Family Success Centers is to:
- Prevent child maltreatment by strengthening individual and family functioning
- Enhancing parental capacity for growth and development
- Increasing the stability, health and well-being of children and families
- Empowering community residents to acquire the knowledge, skills and resources they need to succeed and provide optimal outcomes for children and families.
The Family Success Centers work in collaboration with families to identify and resolve issues so that families can move towards self-sufficiency.
Core Values
The FSCs embody the Department of Children and Families Core Values and are grounded in the following:
- New Jersey Standards for Prevention Programs: Building Success through Family Support
- Protective Factors outlined in Supporting Strong Families and Communities in New Jersey: Preventing Child Abuse & Neglect, 2014 – 2017
- Principles of Family Support Practice
Family Success Centers
Atlantic County Government, through funding from and in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, contracts with broker agencies to manage three Family Success Centers in the following communities: Galloway, Egg Harbor Township, and Hammonton. Family Services Association is the broker agency that manages the centers in Galloway and Egg Harbor Township. AtlantiCare Behavioral Health is the broker agency that manages the center in Hammonton.
Parent Community Advisory Board
Each FSC has a Parent Community Advisory Board (PCAB) whose membership is representative of the community and families utilizing the center. The PCAB is responsible for the following:
- Conducting surveys of local needs
- Developing recommendations for continued program improvement
- Assisting the FSC in attracting resources and community participation
- Participating in FSC activities and events
- Conducting evaluations and satisfaction surveys, identifying strengths and needs in the community and proposing services that meet those needs.
The PCAB members serve as ambassadors and help build bridges into the community.
