The Office of Policy, Planning and Development (OPPD) serves as one the three units within the Department of Regional Planning and Development and oversees various land use functions such as development review or the review and approval of site plan and subdivision applications through the Development Review Committee (DRC), a subcommittee of the Planning Advisory Board (PAB). Currently, staff are getting ready to participate fully in the update to the State Development and Redevelopment Plan (the State Plan).

Division of Engineering

Division of Engineering plans, designs, inspects and administers all construction contracts relating to county roads, bridges, traffic signals and related infrastructure. The division has a land surveying section that prepares surveys as required for county properties.

Both the Divisions of Engineering and the Office of Policy, Planning and Development are actively participating in assisting the Atlantic County Economic Alliance, National Aerospace Research and Technology Park, South Jersey Transportation Authority, and the Atlantic City International Airport in diversifying the County's economy into the areas of air cargo, aviation research and other high- tech industries. The Office of Policy, Planning and Development also works closely with the South Jersey Transportation Planning Organization on regional growth, transportation and industry studies including securing funding for needed future transportation infrastructure improvements.

Office of Land Acquisition

The Office of Land Acquisition implements the recommendations of the Atlantic County Open Space and Recreation Plan, May 2018. Through the acquisition of real property and easements, the Office ensures sufficient lands are set aside for open space, recreation, and farmland preservation purposes. Through the establishment of the County/Municipal Open Space Partnership Program, County Government has enabled the County's 23 municipalities to choose the Open Space projects of their choice and to fund those projects utilizing a portion of the Open Space Trust funds.

Using the GIS Web Map Viewer allows you to select and control a wide variety of viewable data through this mapping function. Static maps are GIS based PDF files which have been pre-structured for specific views.

Update to the State Development and Redevelopment Plan (the State Plan)

Atlantic County Government, through the Department of Regional Planning and Development, anticipates serving as the "Negotiating Entity" during the State's Cross-Acceptance Process. The negotiating entity serves as the liaison between our municipal partners, the State and their various State Agencies during Cross-Acceptance. Cross-Acceptance is the process by which the goals, policies and planning areas or land use areas of the State Plan are compared with municipal goals, policies, and land use areas to identify areas of agreement and disagreement. The ultimate goal of the process is to reconcile those areas of disagreement so that there is some level of agreement throughout all levels of government on matters related to State goals, policies and planning or land use areas.
