The Atlantic County Division of Public Health works to control the spread of infectious diseases in Atlantic County through education, counseling, screening and immunizations.

Infectious Diseases

Certain infectious diseases are reportable to the Division of Public Health. Upon receipt of such reports, Public Health staff investigates the case or cases in order to control the spread of the disease.

Tuberculosis (TB)

The Division of Public Health holds clinics to evaluate people with a history of PPD (positive purified protein derivative) or exposure. Treatment is provided for both latent TB and active TB infection.

Sexually Transmitted Disease

Confidential screening, counseling and treatment is available for Gonorrhea, Syphilis and Chlamydia. We also perform Rapid HIV testing. No fee and no appointment are necessary. The clinic is held every Monday, except holidays, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 201 Shore Road (Stillwater Building) in Northfield.

Information on AIDS and HIV

Adult Immunizations

Immunizations are essential to protect children from many devastating diseases but adults also need immunizations. The NJ Department of Health reports that over 40,000 adults die each year from diseases for which an immunization is available. The Division of Public Health provides vaccinations for adults 19 years of age and older at no charge for residents without insurance and those whose insurance does not cover these vaccines.

Flu/Pneumonia Clinics

In addition to the Adult Immunization Clinic, the Division of Public Health holds annual Flu/Pneumonia clinics during the flu season at various locations throughout Atlantic County. There is no out-of-pocket fee for Medicare Part B recipients. There is a small fee for those without Medicare Part B.
