The Environmental Health Unit permits and inspects businesses that offer tattooing, permanent cosmetics, and ear and body piercing to the public in order to protect the public's health. Physicians authorized to practice medicine by the State Board of Medical Examiners are not regulated pursuant to this section of the State Sanitary Code

All businesses that intend to perform body art procedures must get a permit from the Atlantic County Division of Public Health, Environmental Health Unit prior to operation. Permitted businesses are then inspected once a year or more frequently if necessary. A $200.00 fee is associated with this license.
