Atlantic County administers both a 12 Hour and a 48 Hour IDRC Program. These programs are court mandated and are to be completed by anyone convicted of a “driving under the influence” motor vehicle offense. These courses are not punitive in nature, but are an educational experience served in lieu of a jail term.

12 Hour IDRC

The 12 hour programs are usually held twice a month (once a month in April and September), on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Classes begin at 4:00 pm sharp. Please arrive on time. Participants will be turned away if they are late. Participants are required to attend two consecutive evenings in order to complete and receive credit for this court ordered requirement.

The programs are held in the Shoreview Building, at the Atlantic County Complex, 101 S. Shore Rd., Northfield, NJ 08225.

Cost

The cost of attendance for this program is $264. Full payment must be made the first evening of your scheduled class. The county cannot accept cash or personal checks for payment. The only acceptable means of payment are: Money Order or Certified Bank Check (made payable to “Atlantic County IDRC program, 12-hour class), or a Credit or Debit Card issued in the name of the participant. If you plan to make payment with a credit or debit card issued to another person, that person must be present at the time of payment.

What to Bring

If you have completed a substance abuse treatment program, after your last DUI offense, please bring proof of that treatment with you to class. A letter from the Treatment Provider Agency or a Certificate of Completion will be accepted. We cannot accept billing receipts as proof of your completion of treatment.

What to Expect

You will have a dinner break each evening, and you can bring a meal with you. However, please note that no food can be delivered to the IDRC class building at any time, nor can you leave the premises. There are soda and snack machines within the building, but we do have any control over these machines and cannot make refunds for lost moneys and/or machine malfunctions. Do not eat during class; eat only on scheduled breaks or during your dinner break.

Important Information

Anyone appearing for class with alcohol on their breath or under the influence will not be admitted to class, and will automatically be referred back to the sentencing court.

Failure to attend and complete your IDRC program can result in a mandatory two-day jail sentence, resuspension of your drivers license, and/or a delay in having your driving privileges restored.

Normally you cannot reschedule your class assignment. Call for only acceptable reasons for rescheduling at (609) 645-5932.

48 Hour IDRC

Atlantic County is one of the counties in the State of New Jersey that administers a county-run 48 Hour IDRC Program, which is available only to Atlantic County residents. Attendance at the Atlantic County 48 Hour IDRC Program allows county residents the opportunity to complete their court-ordered requirements.

The 48 hour programs are only held three times a year (once in April and twice in September). Classes run Thursday through Saturday, or Saturday through Monday. Participants must report for their class by 1:30 PM on the first day of their scheduled class. Clients must complete the entire 48 hour program in order to get credit for their court ordered requirement.

The program originates out of the Shoreview Building, at the Atlantic County Complex, 101 S. Shore Rd., Northfield, NJ 08225. Intake is completed at that building; upon completion of all client intakes, you will then be bused to a camp for your scheduled class. You will be required to stay overnight for two nights.

Meals will be provided during your stay at the 48 Hour IDRC class. You may also bring “small” snack items.

All medications (including over the counter) will be collected by a Registered Nurse, and will be distributed by the RN during your class stay. Prescription medications must be in original, labeled containers. Participants without properly labeled medications will not be admitted to the class.

Accommodations will be dorm style. You will have an individual twin bed assigned to you. Please bring comfortable clothes, a towel, a twin-sized bed sheet and blanket (or a sleeping bag) and a pillow. Also bring personal toiletries such as soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and shampoo.

Electronic devices such as iPads, Kindles, and cell phones, may be brought to camp, but can only be used at specific times as outlined by the IDRC staff. Use of these devices at any time not authorized by IDRC staff will result in confiscation, with return to the owner at the end of camp. Also, please note that neither Camp Haluwasa and its staff nor the Atlantic County IDRC and its staff are responsible for damaged, lost and/or stolen electronic equipment.

Rescheduling of class will only be permitted due to a medical emergency. Clients trying to reschedule will need to provide a letter from a physician stating diagnosis and prognosis. The information will then be sent to the IDP unit in Trenton for further processing and possible rescheduling on the next available class.
